It's like I"ll get it to indicate it is downloading the timers once, but the next time in doesn't. For some reason, even that computer doesn't work 9 out of 10 times. My wife actually had an old Compac laptop running windows 98 which I started using after I was able to solve my XP problems. I simply programed the CM11A at specific times like when day light savings time occurs or when going on vacation. I never left the CM11A in the wall on the computer because our office was to far away from the lights I wanted control an the signal wasn't strong enough (and never bother to buy a signal enhancer). It's more of a frustration thing at this point.

My main X10 usage is in the family room and kitchen adjusting the lights my remote (MX 500) instead of getting up off the couch. The reality of the situation is I really don't use it for timer features other than for the coach and front porch light. Good suggestions, and I certainly won't be getting rid of the CM11A.

Why don't you make your current PC 'Dual-Boot': WinXP and Win98SE? Boot to Win98SE when you need to 'talk' to the CM11A, otherwise default to WinXP.If you're not doing anything that requires the computer to be on 24x7, I have TWO questions / alternatives for you:

It's a well-known problem that the CM11A with it's SERIAL interface sometimes gets finicky with 'newer' Windows OS's. Unless you NEED the additional features of the CM15A/AHP, stick with your CM11A/AH. The outside lights turn on and off so maybe the headache I'm wondering if I should just revert to an X10 timer.Īll I was using the ActiveHome for was mostly to have At this point, however, looks like that's not going to happen.Īlright, I've tried everything I can think of to get theĪctiveHome serial cable version to work again. We are heading off on a week cruise, and in the past when we've left, I've also downloaded a series of different timers to have the lights go on and off and make the house look lived in. But, also via my search of the forums, I saw some people saying that even the USB version has XP problems.ĭoes anyone use the USB version with Windows XP without incident? If I knew it would definitely solve the problem, I'd go ahead and upgrade. It's like hit or miss.ĭoes anyone have any suggestions I could try?Īlso, I called X-10 and all they wanted to do is sell me the ActiveHome with the USB. What's frustrating me is that after working for over a year, it now sometimes communicates with the wall plug in module and sometimes doesn't.įor example, all was fine with daylight savings time changed back in the Fall, but now that it has again changes, I can't seem to download my new timers. Through searching, I've read a few posts saying that Windows XP can be problematic with ActiveHome. Usually services and processes arelisted alphabetically so look for x10nets to the bottom of the list. This service takes care of all the details of communicating with theCM15A transceiver which is a USB device.First, I'm refering to the non-USB ActiveHome.

You can verify that a service is running bypressing the Alt-Ctrl-Del chord of keys and selecting the Task Manager. A service is a type of program that isautomatically started when the computer is booted and that runs inthe background.

And that’sprecisely what will be done: we will write a simple application inDelphi that uses the CM15A to control some X10 modules.A Windows service called x10nets is part of the software installedby ActiveHome Pro (or by the AHSDK).
